Under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act of 2020, families that qualify for free or reduced price meals at school may be eligible for a new one-time Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) of up to $302 per child (Pre-Kindergarten – Grade 12) to help cover the cost of meals students have eaten at home on days that schools have been closed. Students can receive P-EBT benefits even if they have been or continue to receive meals provided by the school district during the school closure. If your child was not previously eligible for free or reduced price meals, but you have now lost income, you may be eligible to receive P-EBT benefits (review the P-EBT Eligibility Criteria document below). The benefit is placed on an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card families use to buy food. If you received Food Stamp (SNAP) benefits in March, do not apply for these new/additional benefits. The full $302 will automatically be loaded to your existing EBT card. If you did not receive Food Stamp (SNAP) benefits in March, you must apply for this benefit by June 30, 2020 (see below). The most efficient way to apply is to submit your application online at EmergencyMealSurvey.com/MO. You will also likely experience a faster approval process. If you’re not able to apply online, you can follow the link below to the paper application. The fillable PDF document can then be emailed or mailed to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).

2020 Graduation Update: Seniors and senior parents, we hope you are well and spending your extra time enjoying family due to the 'stay at home order' and social distancing requirements. We want to get updated information to you regarding Graduation Ceremony so you can make needed plans and distribute information for those people affected on your end. In making plans to celebrate your graduation, we have tried to make the best out of a challenging situation, just as you are at home with your jobs and family. Graduation will take place, as planned, on Friday, May 8 at 7:00 pm at the school campus. If, by that time, we have returned to regular school being in session, graduation will be held in the same traditional fashion as in the past. If we are still under the same (or similar) health mandates including limits on gatherings and social distancing, we will have a combination drive-through and walk-in ceremony which could include the honored 2020 graduate and up to 6 family members being present in the multi-purpose room for the senior to receive their diploma and other awards/honors. The graduate would drive through in a vehicle and enter through the west doors into the multi-purpose room and be recognized on the stage, then exit and proceed with their vehicle to the parking lot to be welcomed by other graduates in their vehicles. Stephen's Photography will be present to take a professional photo for a special graduate composite, paid for by the school district. More details will be forthcoming in the near future. We wanted to get the preliminary information to you and let you know we are thinking of you and planning for your special day. Stay safe and well. We will be communicating with you soon.

I am very pleased to announce that CMH Cardio-Pulmonary Rehabilitation now offers “Ready Now” Vaping Cessation outpatient consults for teens. This is a FREE one-hour crash course and an avenue for the child to get connected with other providers on our staff for long-term success. It is important to Citizens Memorial that we partner with you and help support parents, students and schools as we tackle this epidemic TOGETHER! Parents/students can make an appointment by calling 417-328-6574. Please feel free to share this information with school leaders, counselors, parents and students. · These outpatient consults are scheduled appointments available in the Cardio-Pulmonary Rehab department. · They are led by Anne Bristow, registered respiratory therapist with 40+ years of experience and a master degree in education & counseling. Anne Bristow is certified for smoking cessation counseling through the American Lung Association, and she also hosts our quarterly smoking cessation classes. · This consultation is FREE. · We will be working on collaterals. During this one-hour “crash course,” our goal is to provide the fundamental tools/resources for vaping cessation, establish a supportive relationship with the patient, and encourage them to seek the necessary resources and tools to help them stop vaping. But if we never see them again, we hope to equip them with the entry-level resources they will need for support to optimize their success. We hope that this new service will meet the needs of students in our service area.

Governor Mike Parson has indicated that preparing students for Missouri’s 21st century workforce is a top priority in the state. Opportunities abound in today’s economy for students who attain some type of specialized technical skill, an industry recognized credential or post-secondary training. All of these can be accomplished by attending Career and Technical Education Programs (CTE) around the state. We believe CTE programming is underutilized by Missouri’s students, so we are trying to find out why. We want to know how our current CTE programming is perceived by students, parents and guardians, business leaders, school counselors and other educators as school districts consider adding courses in CTE and encouraging more students to enroll in these programs. The CTE Advisory Council, established in Section 178.550.1, RSMO, has developed a survey to gather feedback on people’s perceptions about CTE. Once the results of the survey have been analyzed, the Advisory Council’s goal is to develop and implement a comprehensive statewide communications and marketing campaign to improve public confidence in CTE and to increase the number of students participating in the programming. Below is the link to the survey if you would like to participate in the survey. The due date is April 12. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CTE-DESE

The Fair Play School District is asking parents and guardians for help in educating our students regarding the health risks and dangers of vaping. In recent news, vaping has been referred to as the “fastest growing epidemic facing US youth”. Research shows that chemicals in common nicotine vaping solutions have been shown to cause cancer, slows brain development and is as addictive as cocaine. Fair Play is not immune to the reach of this epidemic. We have received information that vaping is occurring during school hours and in school buildings. Educational information has been presented to students and warnings have been given. Students caught using or possessing these materials will be subject to consequences found in recently amended school policy. The information regarding the updated policy and consequences was sent home today for signing and return of the form to the High School Office for grades 7 through 12. The due date for return of the signed form is Friday, January 11. The form can also be accessed for printing on the school website. Look for details coming in the near future about an educational meeting for parents and guardians to give knowledge about the harmful effects of this current problem. Thank you for helping protect the safety of our students and your children.

Fair Play students had a great time today at the O-STEAM Mini-Maker Fair. Lots of new opportunities including the tornado chase vehicle and making chain mail bracelets. White River Conference Center was perfect venue!
